MAKE NO APOLOGIE made it five wins from eight starts when completing an unbeaten run through the Seasons Scaffolding Puppy Trophy Final at Hove on Thursday.

The Jabber Crew-owned runner, who gamely came again to win his heat after being headed off the second bend, always looked set to bag the £2,500 prize on Thursday after breaking smartly and holding his position rounding the first two turns.

Stretching clear, the recent Romford Puppy Cup finalist was never headed thereafter and crossed the line four and a half lengths clear of favourite Antigua Breeze (Mark Wallis) in 28.29sec for the 490m distance.

Winning trainer Heather Dimmock, who landed a double on the night with victory for Volcanic Reef and also sends out Down To The Felt in Monday’s BGBF Nottingham/British Breeders Stakes Final, was delighted with the Category Two event triumph.

She said: “I thought he ran really well and it’s great for us and the owners. Adam (Duncan) from The Jabber Crew bought his litter sister Faydas Jet off Greyhound Data and were offered a deal involving the brother – both were unraced. Thankfully they accepted it.

“He was just too young and green for the Puppy Classic at Nottingham, but he’s really come forward of late. I actually thought the Romford Puppy Cup matured him, he started to show not just early pace but a real will-to-win and just got stronger.

“He’s a December 17, so there’s still a chance of a couple more puppy races, but we’re thinking about possibly the Olympic back at Hove or even the Eclipse. He’s only raced at Nottingham once, on his debut, and is a better dog now.

“He’s young but improving and might be a Derby dog, but we’d look to run again at Nottingham before really making that sort of plan for him,” added Dimmock, who revealed kennel star Stardom could be back for the Perry Barr St Leger.

Hove’s stadium manager Brian Murphy congratulated Make No Apologie’s connections for their success in the Seasons Scaffolding Puppy Trophy, which is a new event for the recently refurbished Sussex circuit.

“It was a great night and obviously a massive thank-you goes to Steve Eason from Seasons Scaffolding for sponsoring the competition, which proved a fantastic one with some great entries and fast times in the heats.

“It resulted in a great final – well done to Make No Apologie and Heather Dimmock and The Jabber Crew whose dog won in the second fastest time ever for the 490m distance. He had a good battle into the bend with Antigua Breeze and then went on.

“Our big-race sponsor Steve (Eason) is a local business owner and greyhound owner at Hove. He put together the sponsorship for this puppy competition for the first time – and without support from him and owners alike these nights wouldn’t be possible.

“I thought it was a really good atmosphere and the restaurant was again packed for our regular Thursday night open-race cards – and these continue next week with the Coral Brighton Belle. The final will be on November 7 – book now on 01273 013334!

“Then to finish the year we have the Coral Olympic. This year we’ve actually moved the Olympic nights from Thursday to Saturday – this is because Boxing Day falls on a Thursday. So the Olympic rounds will be the Saturdays 14, 21 and 28.

“But once again thanks to Steve Eason for the sponsorship of the Seasons Scaffolding Puppy Trophy. He has already pencilled in the competition to return next year and was delighted with the support he received from owners and trainers.”
