UNTOLD DOLLAR underlined his standing as a youngster of the highest order with another major success in the Hove Puppy Cup Final on Saturday.

The £5,000-to-the-winner Category Two competition was chief support to the final of the Coral Brighton Belle, the bitches-only showpiece, and victory went to the Carol Weatherall-trained, Callum and John Purdy-owned runner, already winner this year of the Premier Greyhound Racing Puppy Derby at Monmore.

Installed a red-hot favourite off the back of an impressive heat win – a comfortably fastest-of-the-round 29.18sec effort for the 500m – the August 2022 son of Newinn Taylor and Glenegat Mildred could even afford a missed break in the final before pacing up well inside and leading off the second turn.

Thereafter, it was plain sailing for Weatherall’s pup as he kept up a stiff gallop to the wire for a two-and-a-half length success over Ballymac Mari (Kevin Hutton) and Droopys Pivotel (Maxine Locke) in 29.63sec (-30).

In addition to the Hove Puppy Cup and Brighton Belle, Hove staged two other finals on Saturday as part of a gala card at the south coast venue.

The Jenny Bunting Memorial Sweepstake – an A1 competition in honour of the late local home-finder – was won by Patrick Browne’s Brinkleys Ginger who made all in 29.95sec, keeping De Pan Handler (Carl Gardiner) at bay by three-quarters of a length.

The Coral Sprint Trophy Final went the way of Mark Wallis’s Quarteira who featured in one of the races of the night as Guzzler (Belinda Green) and Without Justice (Barry O’Sullivan) put themselves in contention with fast exits before the odds-on favourite, the reigning GBGB Sprinter of the Year, powered to the front on the run for home for a 16.61sec (-15) success, winning by a length and a quarter.

Hove racing manager Rob Abrey was delighted with the night as a whole, despite poor weather conditions which made the going on the slow side.

“It was certainly more of a test than the previous week but the track held up well enough. You might say the outside traps had the best of the conditions, but we still had four red-jacket winners on the night – and some high-class ones at that.”

Abrey added: “Congratulations to all our winners, but especially connections of Queen Joni and Untold Dollar, our Cat One and Cat Two winners. Team McNair and Team Weatherall can be proud of their runners – and for the McNairs it’s especially significant given they are part of Trainers’ Judgement Night here at the weekend.

“It’s an honour to stage that event and the quality of the teams released by the trainers involved – Liz McNair, Mark Wallis, Kevin Hutton, John Mullins, Richard Rees and Tom Heilbron – suggests we’re in for another top-class evening’s racing here.

“I’d also like to give special mention to Belinda Green and connections of Betsys Bullet, last year’s Coral Brighton Belle champion. She had her final race here on Saturday in the Brighton Belle Consolation and connections sponsored a retirement race for her later on in the evening which she ‘presented’ and was won by Paul Young’s Droopys Auntie.”
