LIZ MORT, chair of the British Greyhound Breeders Forum, has thanked track promoter Dave Barclay and all at Harlow Stadium after a successful return to the Essex venue for last week’s BGBF Sprint Final.

The GBGB Category Two competition offered £3,000 prize to the winner and that went to connections of the John Mullins-trained Sonic Emjay, who was bred by Kelly Macari and part-owned by herself, Mark Bates, Simon Oakes and Alex Wade.

Mort said: “What a cracking final we had to this competition. Sonic Emjay doesn’t always trap as well as he can, but this time he did and there was no catching him. He ran a blinder and is a really nice dog bred by Kelly Macari. Congratulations to her.

“It was a big litter – a September 2019 batch out of her Mill Patricia. There were ten of them and I think I’m right in saying all have won races, and half of them are contesting open races which is some achievement. And, of course, their sire is another British-bred in King Elvis, so that makes it even better.

“Well done to trainer John Mullins, who took this dog on from Newcastle trainer Stuart Tight after Stuart and Kelly felt he’d do better around some of the tighter southern tracks – and they were right!

“Congratulations to all the finalists. They all ran well for their owners and trainers and produced a really good final and cracking event and, while Sonic Emjay managed to get away, it was a good race for the places and not much between them.

“Interestingly three of them are by King Elvis, including runner-up Ballyoak Elvis and Bang On Harry.

“A big thank-you to David Barclay and Harlow Stadium for hosting our event. We hadn’t held anything there for a couple of years and it was good to be back.

“The atmosphere was really good, the restaurant was full to overflowing, and it seemed a very popular and happy place. Our thanks, too, to SIS for their continued support of British breeding and for backing our events.”

Having been caught by Keeperhill Eddie (Gemma Evans) in the semis after a slower start than ideal before pacing up, this time in the two-final decider Sonic Emjay trapped in front and never gave his rivals a chance.

Soon in command, the Mullins star was now racing against the clock as he strode clear for a four and a half lengths success over Ballyoak Elvis (Dave Lewis) and King Sam (Dab Brabon) in 15.09sec (-10) for the 238m trip.
