The GBGB is currently looking to recruit 2 x Stipendiary Stewards:

Yorkshire – will include both Doncaster and Kinsley Racecourses and trainers in the Middlesbrough, Hull and Doncaster areas.  Applicants will be required to live in the Yorkshire area.

South West – will include Swindon, Oxford and potentially the Valley and trainers in an area covering Devon through to South Wales (Pembrokeshire) and across to South West London.  Applicants will be ideally located close to the west section of the M25, M3 or M4 corridor.

Reporting to the Senior Stipendiary Steward, duties will include:

  • Upholding the GBGB’s Rules of Racing and related policies regarding the regulation and integrity of GBGB licensed greyhound racing and greyhound welfare.
  • As a member of the Greyhound Regulatory Board (GRB) Disciplinary Authority, conduct and make findings at Local Inquiries in accordance with the GBGB Rules of Racing.
  • Inspect and report on all premises licensed by GBGB.
  • Undertake the annual inspection audit of racecourses, in line with GBGB’s UKAS-accredited scheme.
  • Assessing and inspecting new training licence applications and premises.
  • Working alongside the team of GBGB Regional Regulatory Veterinary Surgeons to maintain the highest standards of greyhound welfare.
  • To support the Trainers Assistance Committee in relation to improvement and development funding for residential kennels.
  • Acting as the lead, or assisting, in investigations into serious rule breaches and providing supporting evidence as part of the disciplinary process.

You will be a team player, confident, motivated, work well under pressure, and possess the ability to show initiative and a willingness to learn.

You must be able to demonstrate a very high standard of professional integrity, and ideally have experience working within the greyhound industry (either at a racecourse, as a trainer or assistant trainer). A strong interest and enthusiasm for greyhound racing and greyhound welfare is essential.  Candidates who have worked in a regulatory background or have had experience working within a similar role will also be considered.

Familiarity with the Rules of Racing, auditing and inspection principles and conducting investigations would be a distinct advantage, although full training will be provided.

The position will largely involve lone working and therefore you must be able to work unsupervised and hold a clean and valid driving licence.  This role will include a high volume of driving.
