The 76th Two Year Old Produce Stakes 2022 – Swindon 476m – £13,000
SIGNET OTIS kick-started the 76th British Bred Two-Year-Old Produce Stakes in the best possible style with a new track record in heat three of the first round of the British-bred showcase at Swindon on Sunday.
The Kevin Hutton-trained star, a multiple GBGB Category One finalist and BGBF British Breeders Stakes winner at Nottingham, was quickly away on his way to a fastest 3.94sec sectional and an eight-and-a-half lengths success over Signet Goofy (John Mullins) and Westwell Diego, another Hutton runner, in 27.75sec (+20) – a new best for the 476m trip.
A member of his outstanding January 2020 Magical Bale and Forest Natalee litter, Signet Otis’s success was matched by litter brother Signet Denver in heat seven as the Derby quarter-finalist was also soon clear on his way to a two-and-a-quarter lengths success over kennelmate Westwell Emer and Blastout Tink (Richard Yeates) in 28.08sec (+20).
Moments Of Magic later landed an impressive treble for the same litter with another facile success as she soon dominated in heat nine and had drawn almost seven lengths clear at the line from No Rush (Carol Weatherall) and Sharp Josh (Seamus Cahill) in 28.07sec (+20).
The treble and track record delighted trainer and breeder Kevin Hutton, who said: “We’ve been looking forward to this competition all year with the Bale litter so it was fantastic to get off to such a good start.
“I think Otis had been threatening a huge run for a while now so it was great to see it all come together for him. It really was a top-drawer effort.
“Denver has been keeping the very highest company and deserved to get his head in front. He should improve for that, while Magic has just been a dream for us all having already won three competitions and could well go along way in this comp too. She’s in great form.
“All that said, getting three of them in one second round heat is not ideal, but we’ll just have to get on with it.”
Dave Puddy was another trainer delighted with his night’s work as the Central Park handler saw littermates Al Capone and Valentino land heats two and eight respectively.
First up was Al Capone as the February 2020 son of Pat C Sabbath and Sleepy Genie was soon in command for a one-and-a-quarter lengths success over Get On Hilda (Seamus Cahill) and Homeward Hero (Peter Swadden) in 28.87sec, before Valentino’s short-head victory over Deanridge Boyone (Allison Kelly-Pilgrim) in the penultimate heat in 28.94sec (+20).
Deanridge Twowon, who started his career in A8 at Crayford in February, continued his tremendous improvement when opening the event with an impressive trap-to-line success for Crayford’s Allison Kelly-Pilgrim in heat one.
Quickly away, the August 2020 son of Man Twenty One and Deanridge Muse was never headed as he crossed the line three-and-a-quarter lengths clear of Romeo On Tilt (Patrick Janssens) and Sleek By Design (Kevin Hutton) in 28.21sec (+20).
The other heats were won by the Patrick Janssens-trained Romeo Top Gun (28.26sec +20), Paul Foster’s Geelo Warrior (28.68sec +20) and Vicki Lea’s Romeo Mcqueen (28.33sec +20) – the latter completing a heat double for breeder Dave Firmager.
