LIZ McNAIR will have half the field in Saturday’s BGBF British Bred Puppy Cup at Oxford after a clean sweep in the weekend’s semi-finals.

Fastest of the trio was English Puppy Derby finalist King Jackson (2-7F), an April 2023 son of Magical Bale and Queen Beyonce, who was quickly away in the second semi and raced away for a runaway nine and three-quarter length success over Savana Merapi (Diane Henry) in a hand-timed 26.65sec for the 450m trip.

The winner’s litter sister Queen Cilla struck in the first semi as a smart burst of pace into the bend secured the 5-4 favourite a lead which she maintained to the line for a two-length success from the running-on Izzys Tenpin (David Mullins), representing last year’s winning kennel, in 26.99sec.

Queen Sinead, an April 2023 daughter of King Elvis and Queen Dolly, then wrapped up the third semi as the 4-9 favourite started quickly and soon had her rivals under pressure, dominating from pillar to post for a length and three-quarters success over the keeping-on Walter Jezabelle in 27.20sec.

Liz Mort, chair of the British Greyhound Breeders Forum (BGBF), congratulated the McNair kennel and the KSS Syndicate, the litter’s owners and breeders.

“That was a fantastic achievement on Saturday night. Winning all three semis, two with littermates, is special – although I’m sure Rab and Liz are not getting carried away ahead of the final. There’s still a job to do for these youngsters.

Mort added: “King Jackson is a real flying machine and it’s just great to see him and the likes of Queen Cilla going so well. This is Queen Beyonce’s second litter on the track – and we know the first wasn’t bad given she threw King Memphis and King Capaldi among others in that first litter by Droopys Sydney.

“This batch is by Magical Bale, while Queen Sinead is by King Elvis out of Queen Dolly – her first litter.

“Well done to David Mullins and his team, too. They’ve qualified their home-bred Izzys Tenpin and are looking for back-to-back wins after Romeo Cypher last year. Tenpin is making his name as a stud dog and all four of the litter including Izzys Tenpin reached the semi-finals.

Well done to Keith Robins and Diane Henry for getting Walter Jezabelle and Savana Merapi through.

“So good luck to all the runners in our Puppy Cup final on Saturday and thanks to Oxford for hosting and SIS for supporting.”
