Maxine Locke strengthened her grip on the Trainer of the Year title race, adding 31 points to extend her lead at the head of the standings, while the battle for second intensified as Paul Young gained 18 points to draw level with reigning champion Mark Wallis on 748. Jimmy Fenwick remains fourth but was the standout performer of the week, posting a remarkable 88-point haul to move onto 636 points and further cement his position in the top four. Strong gains from Shaun Parker (+55) and Kevin Hutton (+52) saw the pair climb into a share of sixth place, while the Coral Romford Puppy Cup winning trainerMichelle Brown (+60), Richie Taberner (+62) and  last week’s standout performer Craig Morris (+40) were among the other notable movers in a week that saw significant movement throughout the top ten.

 

Standout performer

The week belonged to Jimmy Fenwick, who produced by far the biggest points haul among the leading contenders. His total surged from 548 to 636 points, an increase of 88 points, allowing him to further consolidate fourth place in the Trainer of the Year standings.
The outstanding tally came courtesy of  nine winners across Newcastle, Sunderland, Dunstall Park and Sheffield. The kennel struck five times on Friday alone, including open-race victories for Elegant Shadow, Ballymac Shontae and Taylor The Best, before Woltemade delivered the week’s headline performance with an emphatic 3½-length success in the £12,500-to-the-winner Birmingham Cup final at Dunstall Park. Wicky Ned rounded off week at Sheffield on Sunday, making all to land the Owlerton Stadium Standard Final by 4¾ lengths.
