The race for the 2026 Trainer of the Year title remains finely balanced despite Maxine Locke extending her advantage at the summit.

Locke added a further 10 points during the latest scoring period to move onto 921 points, maintaining a 161-point cushion over Paul Young, who strengthened his hold on second after adding 12 points to pull four clear of reigning champion Mark Wallis. Just behind the leading trio, Jimmy Fenwick continued his relentless progress with another 11-point gain, taking his tally to 647 and further cementing fourth place following last week’s standout 88-point haul. There was also movement elsewhere in the top ten, with Sean Parker edging ahead of Kevin Hutton to claim sixth outright after adding five points, while Rose Draper matched Locke’s weekly increase with a 10-point rise to move onto 421 points. Further down the standings, Craig Morris (+5) climbed above Richard Rees, while Michelle Brown (+13) and Glenn Foot (+15) were among the biggest movers in the top 20, highlighting another competitive week in a championship battle that remains wide open behind the leader.

 

Standout performer

Glenn Foot was the standout performer of the week, posting the biggest points increase among the leading trainers. His 15-point haul lifted him from 180 to 195 points and saw him move up to 19th in the standings. The Star Pelaw trainer successfull weekend came courtesy of his three greyhound’s opening round of the SIS Star Sports Stewards Cup. Witton Gucci struck first in Heat Two, taking command at the fourth bend to score by three lengths in 35.96sec, before Antigua Kestrel landed Heat Three by two and a half lengths in 35.94sec. Droopys Orator completed the treble in Heat Six, dominating from the outset and drawing clear from the first bend to record an emphatic four-and-a-half-length success in 36.47sec, rounding off an outstanding evening for the kennel.
