UK Tote Group contributes to the British Greyhound Racing Fund
GBGB is pleased to announce the UK Tote Group, the UK’s leading pool betting operator, will be contributing to the British Greyhound Racing Fund.
In paying into the Fund, which is sustained through voluntary contributions from bookmakers, UK Tote Group will now be supporting GBGB to deliver essential welfare and integrity initiatives through the Greyhound Commitment such as the Injury Recovery Scheme and the newly launched Greyhound Retirement Scheme.
Joe Scanlon, Chairman of the Fund, said:
“These are particularly difficult times so I’m very pleased to welcome the UK Tote to our ever-growing number of online contributors. I wish them every success in their venture to take pool betting on greyhound racing to a new level. Their commitment to the Fund and in turn welfare provision will be greatly appreciated by everyone connected with our wonderful sport”
Jamie Hart, Racing and Liquidity Director, UK Tote Group, said:
“The Tote was founded by Winston Churchill in 1928 to ensure a share of the revenues from gambling were used for “purposes conducive to the improvement of breeds of horses or the sport of horseracing”. When the UK Tote Group decided to go back into greyhound racing betting it was unthinkable for us not to sign up to support the BGRF and greyhound welfare as part of that initiative. Supporting the sport and the welfare of the animals involved is core to the principles of the Tote, and always will be.”
Mark Moisley, GBGB Commercial Director, said:
“Following a number of positive and productive conversations, we are delighted that the Tote has signed up to pay into the Fund. The Tote is a key player within the betting industry and it is hugely significant that they will be paying into the Fund. Not only does this reflect their commitment to greyhound racing but it also creates a number of opportunities for our sport. I am hugely excited about these opportunities and look forward to building a strong working relationship.”
