Unbeaten Oaks heroine Slick Sakina named RPGTV/GWA Greyhound of the Month
SLICK SAKINA, trained by Patrick Janssens for owner Keith Allsop, was recently named the RPGTV/GWA Greyhound of the Month for October after her unbeaten run through the Premier Greyhound Racing Oaks at Perry Barr.
Currently engaged in the Premier Greyhound Racing Eclipse at Nottingham where the July 2020 daughter of Droopys Sydney and Droopys Ring lines up in Monday’s rearranged semi-finals, Slick Sakina came out on top in a vote of GWA members in what was a high-quality month with a host of top-class winners.
Clive Lawrence, executive producer at award sponsors RPGTV, said: “This was clearly not an easy month given the greyhounds nominated – so well done to Slick Sakina, Patrick (Janssens) and Keith (Allsop).
“Running unbeaten through the bitches’ Classic takes some doing and completed a fantastic training performance from Patrick given she improved throughout – and it probably wasn’t the biggest surprise to then see her win impressively again in her heat of the Eclipse at Nottingham.
“I have to give a shout out to Fromposttopillar, in particular. Watching his story unfold during the race we sponsored at Oxford (RPGTV Cowley Puppy Collar) was fantastic and he looks another star in the making. Along with Slick Sakina, I’m sure we’re going to hear a lot more from Liz and Rab McNair’s Fromposttopillar.”
Martin Seal, racing manager for Perry Barr, added his own tribute to Slick Sakina’s success at the Birmingham track, commenting: “To come into the Premier Greyhound Racing Oaks as a maiden and then to ultimately lift the prize was some achievement – and I’m not sure that’s ever been done before, certainly not for many years.
“It was a superb effort from start to finish in the event and she was faultless on final night – and with Gougane Jet winning the Scurry Gold Cup on the same card it really was a memorable evening’s racing. We’re proud to stage the Oaks and Scurry Gold Cup, especially just a few weeks after hosting the Premier Greyhound Racing St Leger here.”
In lifting the October award, Slick Sakina edged out other nominations Arkady (David Mullins), Chopchop Rainbow (Gemma Evans), Fromposttopillar (Liz McNair), Gougane Jet (Mark Wallis) and Warzone Tom (Liz McNair).
