Westpark Mustard

It was in 1974 that Westpark Mustard set the then record winning sequence of 20 consecutive victories to beat Mick The Miller’s long standing record and therefore carve herself a special niche in the history books.

Trained by Tommy Johnston at Wembley, her remarkable sequence was achieved in the space of ten months and that period included four mothers off the course through season. All of Westpark Mustard’s wins came in open races but she never scaled the heights of Classic champion, a mixture of missed opportunities and seasonal intervention stopping her.

Her run began in a four-bend event at Wembley and she had amassed an impressive 15 victories by the time she broke down in season at the beginning of May. Connections were in no rush to bring her back from season but, when she did return, she was as good as ever and went on to pip Mick The Miller’s run by one. She remained in the record books for over a decade before the brilliant Ballyregan Bob surpassed her record on the way to that incredible run of 32 consecutive victories.
